Would buying a new ram card be worth a try? Does it have to be the same ram card or can it be any 2gb laptop ram card?

Thank you, sorry about the countertop analogy, never mind about that lol. I've tried cleaning the two 2gb ram cards inside and it still didn't help, sometimes the display comes up, sometimes it doesn't. I've tried the external monitor and it doesn't seem to work either. Not sure what else to do...
