Tom's Hardware Steam Giveaway - Civilization VI!

Civ V. It was the first one I played and the one I compare the others to. I have Civ III, but I haven't played much of it since it seems really limited and complicated (if that makes any sense). Workers can only build one thing, it's not clear what everything is (to a Civ V player) buildings...

Hard Drive Partitons not Showing Up on Windows XP

For there to be a partition, you have to make one. But if you don't know what you're doing when you make it, or if you don't have enough space on the drive to do it, you can ruin your existing system and files. There are plenty of tutorials around the internet on how to partition a drive. I...

Gateway HD2201 monitor scaling and sound issues

I have a Gateway HD2201 monitor that I hooked up a game console to with HDMI. The problem is that the console will only output 16:9 video, and the monitor is 16:10. Rather than scale the screen and make small black bars on the top and bottom, or even stretch the picture slightly to fit, the...

Question about Windows 10 and virtual memory.

Great! You'll probably have to do more than stop the process though, as unless the program was uninstalled, it'll start again the next time you reboot. You'll have to disable them from the Startup tab.

Question about Windows 10 and virtual memory.

I need to see more of it than that. I do see a couple programs you probably don't need running, but it wouldn't free up all that much memory. All of the programs that are in the screenshot only use about 0.1 MB (or at least claim to). But to start, you might want to prevent Contextant Audio...

Question about RAM upgrades--Mixing sizes and brands

So, it has a Samsung 4GB stick of DDR3L RAM. What do I need to do to get the best performance? Do I need to get another 4GB stick (or two 8GB sticks) to allow it to run dual-channel? Do I need another Samsung chip, or can I use a Crucial one?

Question about Windows 10 and virtual memory.

How to take a screenshot or how to access task manager? To access Task Manager, press ctrl+shift+esc. Then click on the More Details button on the bottom. Then scroll down in that list until you get to the "Background Processes" sections, and take a screenshot of that entire section. To take a...

Question about Windows 10 and virtual memory.

Ah. It's a good thing you didn't leave it at your last comment or you might not get answers. Can you show me a screenshot of the processes tab in Task Manager so I can know if this is a way to solve your problem?

Question about Windows 10 and virtual memory.

Great! If you have the answer, you should mark this thread as solved to save someone else the trouble of giving you an answer you don't need.

Question about Windows 10 and virtual memory.

Not much. With virtual memory, your computer uses your hard disk in place of RAM. Your hard disk (or even solid state drive) is slower to access than RAM is, so the computer would slow down when it reaches high RAM usage. Also, there's a limit to how much virtual memory Windows can use, and I...

Windows 7 won't detect usb memory sticks or external hard drives

If you can boot Windows from a USB, you should be able to boot Linux from a USB, and Linux has most of the drivers you would need built in to its kernel. So you could boot from a live Linux installation and copy the driver files to the computer's hard drive, then exit and boot to Windows again.
