System Builder Marathon Q2 2015: $1600 Gaming PC

You can get an Intel Xeon E3-1231v3 for $7 more on newegg: http://goo.gl/qlzkrA I am not a gamer but I do build a lot of CAD workstations at work. I do not see why the xeon is not a massive improvement over the i5. It is missing the integrated graphics, but that should not matter for gamers...

computer posts, but dosent seem to read windows 7 upgrade disc(newly built)

You may have a bad disk. Do you get the screen saying "Press any key to boot from cd...." or something like that? If so, and you are getting the described error after pressing a key, I would guess the disk is bad.

Needing advice on C++ (Cpp) programming

What is your end game? Are you hoping for a job writing code? Do you have a specific program in mind you are hoping to create? It is hard to say what the next step is without knowing why you are doing this. From your description alone, sounds like you should pursue a college degree in...

    No case optical drive!

It takes a 4GB flash drive, not 8. And unless you are 50 miles from "town" it would be faster. Who doesn't have a 4GB flash drive?

    No case optical drive!

That is a ridiculous solution to this problem. USE A FLASH DRIVE!!! It is faster, easier, and does the exact same task. Can someone explain to me why you would go through the process of removing the optical drive from a different computer and then "temporarily" hooking it up to the new computer?

    No case optical drive!

Totally safe. And it will be faster than using a disk. I haven't had an optical drive in my computer for 5 years. You can always get a USB optical drive if you really need it.

    No case optical drive!

Easiest thing to do would be to install windows using a flash drive. If you are installing windows 7, check out this site: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool Windows 8, this site...

    Need help with RAID design

I am not sure what you mean by "Read and Write Cycles". Do you mean how did I get the 2x, 3x, 4x numbers?

    Need help with RAID design

That is an absolutely horrible assignment. There are so many variables involved in choosing the "best" RAID configuration. It is like someone asking you "What is the best car". I really wish I could give you a definitive answer, but I don't know how. If there was one definitive best RAID...

Help with my first gaming pc

If you plan on going SLI in the future you will probably want to stick with a full ATX board. Markador put together a nice build. The one issue I have with it is the PSU. I do not want to start a fight here, but I would not go near that Rosewell PSU. Stick with the Seasonic PSU you already...

    Need help with RAID design

Are you using a hardware RAID controller? Or software? What is the model of the controller, I have not heard of a controller offering 0-6, that does not offer 10. I am not doubting you, I would just like to look at the specs on the controller to better answer your question. It really makes a...

Help with my first gaming pc

You can absolutely get a cheaper motherboard. Is there a reason you want a Full ATX board? I would go with a Micro ATX board unless you plan on needing the extra PCIe slots. Something like the ASUS Z87M-PLUS would do everything you want and save you $75. That is my 2 cents.

    Need help with RAID design

If you don't mind losing half your storage, I would agree that RAID 10 is probably the best. Eliminates any parity calculations and will give you excellent read performance. However, you are losing half your storage space, and the write speed will only be twice as fast as a singe drive. (Write...
