Interestingly enough, it turned out to be something to do with the fact that I had my onboard ethernet driver disabled. Maybe it was complete dumb luck, but when I enabled it, it worked again.

Found one on my own. For anyone looking for the same type of thing, I eventually settled on the ASUS PCE-AC68. Pricey, but I like it so far. Can close the thread.
