My video card says it requires a 400w or greater PSU..which I assume I have (550w)
Could cooling be an issue? I only have 1 case fan...but it doesn't seem to be physically "hot". Any internal temperature programs I should try?
I'm having a similar issue. Has happened in Skyrim and Rift... The computer will completely shutdown without warning, similar to a power surge.
PSU: CoolerMaster Extreme Power Plus 550W (RS-550-PCAR)
CPU: Intel Core i5 2400
Mobo: AsRock H61M-VS
HDD: 1x Seagate Barracuda 300gb @ 7200rpm, 2x...
For whatever reason the links are blocked at my work...stupid filter.
Why do you suggest 650w or why would a 750w be even better. Nothing in my system should demand over 450w...or am I wrong?
Thanks, do you think the older system (phenom 9500) was bottlenecking the video card?
The only reason I did such a drastic upgrade was because of the price/performance of those new i5 chips and I didn't want to sink money (more ram) into an aging AM2 system. I bought that video card about a...

Thermaltake Silent PurePower 480w PSU (black)
I realize this is an older PSU, but it's my understanding that the total wattage and connectors (4 pin, 8 pin, etc...) are the real determining factors on what will work...
Awaiting the arrival of a new system...

The HDD I realize is older and a...
Ordered yesterday
core i5 2400 (again didn't need to OC, the 2400 & 2500 non-K are pretty close)
ASRock H61M-VS
G.Skill DDR3 1333 4gb
thanks again for all the help...glad I decided to go the intel route, these i5 chips look like monsters compared to AMD.
Ahhh...the wonderful world of computers...
Do you have any other (cheaper) mobo recommendations. I can stray from ASUS if the price is right and stability is assured. I'm going to be using a single GPU, no overclocking needed. Decent onboard sound (I think they are all rather good now) and...
Those were just some random components I snagged off newegg. What would you recommend in terms of a MOBO. I don't like to stray from ASUS if I don't have too...they've never let me down.
Just did a quick price check on the i5 upgrade...it would put me at about $350 with a cpu+mobo+4gb 1333 ram.
Intel Core i5-2400 -$190
ASUS P8H67-M LX (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 - $99
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) - $50
While that's not exactly expensive...it's more than what I wanted to spend...
I think the intel upgrade route is too expensive at this time. I don't plan on overclocking at all.
I'm fairly certain the 95w and under CPUs will work, I'll confirm this with HP prior to purchasing.
I'm not looking for lightening fast performance and don't expect to get it. I can upgrade...
