A friend suggested a Z97 mobo but is the h97 plus better?

I have an amd a8 5600k and I am using an xfx radeon hd 7950 gpu. I would like to know what the best upgrade would be for me as I would like to play high end games at a decent framerate. Also I have a 550 watt psu which I could upgrade but would prefer not to. Thanks.

also if i reset should i do it from the hard drive or the usb
