Try having a clean installation by removing the previous driver . You can have system restore too to revert any hardware changes .

It is a fermi based card. Which is not for gaming but for multimedia purposes. Casual gaming will be okay . Examples of games like : League of Legends, HoN , Counter Strike Source, Battlefield 4 ( With i3 -3210 , 4GB Rams should be fine ) , Dota 2 and so on. I would suggest HD7750 :)

with your spec here, 7970 is way enough to play all modern title games smoothly. If you wanna change a new gpu gtx 770 / 780 is also a good choice.
