Recover drive seen in BIOS but not in OS

I have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda drive that can be seen in BIOS (reports SMART status bad), but it cannot be viewed reliably in the OS (sometimes it will not show up in device manager/disk management/etc., other times it does, but only briefly before it dies again). The disk has power and is...

    Ram DDRX matter?

RAM speed matters very little in gaming. (rolli59, the Alpha has a discrete GPU) What impacts FPS the most in games is the GPU - the Alienware Alpha has a custom Maxwell GPU similar to an 860M, and you have a GTX 650. So that's close enough, slight advantage to your friend, I think...

Best Gaming CPUs For The Money: January 2012

If your rig will not be for work (that's stuff like heavy video editing, or virtualization, not just word/powerpoint etc.) then an i7 is overkill, just for show. Pick an i5 or the FX-8000 series recommended here. What are the rest of your parts?

    DDR3 in DDR3L slots on a NUC?

So I've got a pair of 4GB Hynix DDR3 SO-DIMMs lying around, and I'm planning on putting them in a NUC I'm getting soon - only thing is, the NUC is specified for 1.35v DDR3L. Now, I've searched around and the general consensus is that there is none: YMMV. Just wanted to ask if anyone else here...

Help selecting a NUC for HTPC/VOIP/Steam In-Home Client

So I've been looking at getting a NUC to serve as an HTPC and run very small (<10 users) Mumble and Teamspeak servers in the background. I already have a 4GB SO-DIMM and am purchasing an SSD (dat Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB @ $56). I've narrowed my selection down to three: GIGABYTE GB-BXBT-1900...

    Best convertible 13-inch laptop?

Well, my trusty ASUS G46VW finally kicked the bucket because of a broken charging port, and it's going to cost too much to repair (out of warranty). I'm looking for a replacement, but I figured that I rarely used my laptop for gaming since I have a desktop for that, so I'm looking for a laptop...

GTX 580? Is it a good GPU?

That's a fair deal for $130. Your alternatives would be the R7 260X at $110, and the R9 270 at $185, which are weaker and roughly equal cards, respectively.

Small Build. $350 (or a little over) Budget.

Agree with combine1237 - opt for a cheaper, more practical case, and find a better HDD. Limiting storage capacity is a poor way to find a good deal. The NZXT Source 210 might be a good choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146078
