Pci-e card won't fit into pci x16 slot

Ive just brought a TP link TL-WDN4800 and it won't fit into my x16 slot when it should, by the looks of it the first of the 3 bottom bits gets in the way. Could I shorten it without it breaking my network adapter?

First time booting computer up but it won't connect via HDMI

Im trying to setup my new pc and the only screen I have is a tv, I'm trying to use hdmi but the tv is not recognising that I have them plugged in. I have tried different hdmi leads and different tv's. I have also tried the different hdmi slots the computer itself with no success. Please help:(
