Ive thought of the same thing HEAPS. But hot spot works just off your mobile data. It cant hot spot the wifi connection and extend it. Your router could be configered to get better range, e.g. turning N on intead of b/g. Another idea is find another router and set it up so it bounces the signal...

Your not doing anything wrong. Its just how windows does things. If i were you let windows format it while installing, then install it. In either case youll be fine
