Question Why can't 128bit GPUS have 12gb VRAM? The relationship between VRAM and bud width?

Its hard for 192bit graphic cards to have 8gb or 16gb, they usually have 6gb or 12gb. And 128bit usually has 4gb, 8gb or 16gb, the same for 256bit. BUT WHY? I heard that 192bit vram usually has 3gb per chip making it 2x3=6 But why can't 128bit have 12gb? Can't they have 2gb per chip and 2x6?

Question How does gpu memory bus width work?

Hi all, I have a few hd 5450s, and I was testing the performance of each one with a different vram size, Firstly, The 512mb card has two 256mb chips, 64 bit (10.8gb/s bandwidth gpuz) The 256mb card has one 256mb chip, 32 bit (5.4gb/s bandwidth gpuz) They both run at the same memory speed...
