GPU vs CPU

I'm into recording my games and renew most of my pc components, because my current rig can't handle it properly, fps decreases drastically during recording. (Which is the ancient legend fx-8350/HD 7950 combo) I don't have an SSD, would that make a big difference?And I also want to edit these...
