M.2 Compatibility

Hi all. Quick question as I’m slightly confused. I have a MSI z170a Sli motherboard. It’s not the sli plus and I have tried to read the manual to see if it supports m.2 nvme and I’m getting confused as it says it supports Pcie 3.0 x 4 but then says supports pcie 3.0 x 4 with a u.2 host card...
