mac os x lion

Hi people. I cannot afford a USB drive for this pc so I tried downloding some .dmg Mac OS files on a couple of DVDs and when I use the program GSplit it splits the file into 5 parts i think except it changes its format when it does it. So instead of having .dmg splitted files i get .gsd file...
