wifi antenna positioning

I have an MSI X570 Godlike motherboard, and it came with a wifi antenna. If I were to tape the antenna upside down underneath my desk, would that inhibit the wifi signal and decrease the internet speed? The manual says to place the antenna as high as possible but doesn't explicitly explain...
