Unsure if this is where to post a question like this but here we go.

I’m very new to pc building, and need some guidance, using videos and articles I have come up with this build, I intend to upgrade down the line but is this a good place to begin and is there any changes recommended.

CPU: Intel 13th Gen I5-13400f £210
Cooler: Deepcool AK400 £40
Motherboard: ASRock B660 Pro RS 1700 £140
RAM: 2x 8GB Corsair vengeance 3600mhz £40
Storage: WD_Blue SN570 1TB £53
Power Supply: EVGA W2 600W £80
GPU: RTX 3060 Eagle £343
Case: Undecided

It’s roughly £900 on Amazon but I believe with some searching I could further get the price down.

Personally, I think it would be a good build. However, you might want to consider 32GB of RAM since the minimum RAM now for Windows seems to be 16GB just for basic office tasks. As for an SSD, I’d stick with Samsung or SK Hynix.

Also, the PSU doesn’t appear on the Tom’s Hardware tier list, so I would avoid it. You should probably get a high quality 750 watt if you want to upgrade in the future.

Thank you, I will take what you’ve said into account, moving to 32gb ram doesn’t affect my budget too much but the PSU is a difficult situation at the moment cause of the mass inflation, I will likely cheap out on it for the rest of the year and then upgrade going into next.

Only issue with going Intel is you will be stuck on DDR4 and any future CPU upgrade will require new motherboard and RAM. The AM5 socket will be around for a while and DDR5 will as well.

The Corsair TXM is a good PSU and at 650W will allow for some more powerful GPUs.

The Intel build is able to get the faster GPU due to the DDR4 platform. Overall the 6600XT is faster in non DXR gaming than the 3060 and the 6700XT is even faster than that.

One other AMD build using Zen 3 instead of Zen 4.

This will be slightly slower in gaming, however, that is with an RTX 4090 at 1080p. With a 6700XT and 1440 or 4k there will be almost no difference. However, in productivity tasks that can use all the cores and threads it will probably be faster than a 13400f. This still runs into the problem that an future upgrade will need a new motherboard and RAM.

Holy! Thank you a lot.
do you recommend going the AMD over Intel, I have no biases as a newbie to this world so will choose whatever . I’ve also discovered a lot of sites (Overclockers) have Finance options which mean my budget can probably go between £1200 and £1500 if you have any suggestions.

The AM5 platform offer upgradeability for the CPU plus DDR5 will be used for quite a while. Upping your budget to 1200-1500 Quid offers so fun options. I will do some other builds for Intel & AMD in that budget range just for a point of reference.

This is just not true. 16gb min for some high end gaming. Otherwise is fine for gaming. I would agree that if I were buying now, then it would be 32gb, because there are games( AAA) that can use more than 16gb system ram.

Basic Office work...that's a bit of a stretch.

On the PSU, the TXM is very good. Not top rated, but highly rated. It's slightly lower on the charts than a RMe. Made with quality Jap caps, and comes with a 7 year warranty.

I remember JonnyGuru saying that in terms of relative quality, lowest to highest, it went RM, TXM, RMx. Isn't the RMe supposed to be below the RM? Don't forget that JonnyGuru is the head of Corsair PSU R&D.

These builds with the RTX 4070Ti will be faster in gaming but slower in multi-threaded applications. They are also using Zen 3 and Alder Lake respectively so their platforms are older.

Using the dual SSD allows for the OS/Applications to be on the 512GB drive and all games to be on the 2TB drive.
The Seasonic Focus GX is a very high quality PSU.

These builds with the RTX 4070Ti will be faster in gaming but slower in multi-threaded applications. They are also using Zen 3 and Alder Lake respectively so their platforms are older.

You've been partpicking like crazy :)

Some stellar options there. I do like the 4070ti builds. At 1440p/4k the difference between CPU is much less, and makes an argument to go that way, (Zen 3/ADL) CPU's cam still push some serious FPS in the right conditions.

Don't forget the RMi in there too! ;) Yes, the RMe is below the RM. I see it like this: RMi-RMx>RM>RMe>TXM . All good gold units.
Ah yes the RMi. That is above the RMx. However, again I just go by what JonnyGuru said, and he should know being the head of R&D at Corsair, that the TXM was better than the RM. Now perhaps that has changed with the 2021 units.

Fitting an Alder Lake CPU into that budget with 32GB RAM, the amount I recommend for non budget builds, and a 2TB SSD caused some problems on the motherboard side. I was forced to go with a lower quality board. IMO I think the 5600 build is better than the 12400f build just because of the motherboard. Not to mention you can easily drop a 5800X3D into that for even more gaming performance in the future.

Team, you have absolutely out done yourselves here, so many other forums, reddits etc. just don’t give the time of day. I’m assuming my smartest move is to go for the AMD £1500 build to future proof, should I have problems financing it all I’ll just drop down to one of the other builds.

The only real difference between the 1500 Quid and 1300 Quid build is the GPU on the non nVidia builds.

That review has both the 6700XT and 6800XT performance numbers just to give you some idea as to around what level of performance you will be getting.

You're welcome. The Community here at Tom's is the best. We may not reply immediately, but everyone is here to help and get back as quickly as possible. It has been invaluable to me, as an enthusiast. I've learned so much here, and still do on a daily basis.

Good choice. Good luck and happy gaming! :)

Yeah, very true. 6700/6800 are really good value right now. At pure raster these two make sense. For RT effects the Nvidia GPU's are the only store in town.

Personally this is how I would do it. The 970 evo plus SSD imo is better than the WD 770 because it has 1gb of DRAM cache. The rm750 from corsair is a great PSU and leaves room to upgrade later. The 12400 non-f for the iGPU as a backup or quick-syc if you ever use it is nice. The blacked out AK620 is also a cooler that can handle the 13700k for the most part so it allows upgrades down the road for the CPU. These few upgrades over the other builds for just 6 quid over budget... Something to think about.
