I am making a PC for £550 but I also need an OS and a few peripherals(Keyboard/Mouse), so I have about £400 to buy components with, I know its not a lot, but I prefer to game on PC and once ive got the main build going ill just upgrade it every so often. I need to it to be able to run most current games on high/ultra settings at 40+ fps. I know this is a long shot but as long as it can beat the console graphics wise then I'm happy. Some GPU's people have recommended me is 7850 2GB, I saw some 6870s, some HD 7770s ad then I saw a EVGA GTX 560 Superclocked Refurbished 2GB for £120. I would prefer the system to be an intel as when i upgrade I can go straight to an i5. Other Preferences:

Case:
Good Cable Management, Window would be nice

CPU:
Intel

GPU:
As long as it beats it's competitors closest card

Sorry for nobody responding flump9.
As for your build, I know £400 isn't a great deal but i will see what i can do...

Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz - It is relatively cheap, and would fit well in your price range.
GPU- I would go for the EVGA gtx 560 if I was you, but it could be risky. Another card you could use is a ARIANET hd 7850 which is on offer for £132.
PSU- I would choose a relatively low power supply, maybe 430w. Don't go overkill.
Motherboard- Once again don't go overkill with this, I would say a GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G. It is micro-ATX, but i should fit everything you need.
RAM- I would choose 4gb of Corsair vengeance, low profile.
Storage- To get you started, choose a 120 gb, maybe 200 gb hardrive. Really, try and find a cleanpull if you can, they have the best gb/$.

Hope this helps, my total with all these components came to £366 pounds, which includes a PSU and a case and all above components. The website I used was ARIA.co.uk

400pounds in my opinion is just too less for maxing most games 40+fps, unless you're playing at 1600x900 or below resolutions, a cheap hd7770 fits better in ur budget range

and honestly you will get limited cpu upgrade-ability because ivy-bridge processor is last lga1155 socket, by the time u want to upgrade to ivy-bridge i5, ivy bridge already one or two generation older, but u still can upgrade ur graphic cards to newer generations anyway

instead my suggestion is get AMD trinity APU and use integrated graphic 1st, then save money for newer generation cards and u wont get a dead cpu socket, anyway i3 route is not bad thought

So the only way I can get upgrade ability is if I get the best AMD APU, and use that until say the next generation of Intel CPUs come out?I mean, when will they be coming out?
