A friend is wanting to build a pc for around £600. I might be able to persuade him to spend a little extra if the spec is right.
I am looking for some advice on parts. He will be using the pc for gaming in games such as League of Legends, Diablo 3 and maybe Battlefield 3.

The parts i had in mind is a 2500k, maybe a 560ti/660ti , 8gb RAM, 1TB HDD, 650w PSU

Help would be great on this 1, please can you refer to links from scan.co.uk, ebuyer.co.uk or aria.co.uk.

Thanks in advance.

His build: Thanks for the help =p

660 Ti is a waste of money and the 560 Ti isn't much better. The GTX 660 is priced a little above the 560 Ti and performs right behind the 660 Ti despite being around 25-40% cheaper and using less power than both of them. If you must have a Nvidia card, then the 660 or the 670 are good choices, but not the 660 Ti and the 560 Ti is older and far more power-hungry (more money over time).

Just put a build together. i have linked it in the description. what do you think?

Really dont like AMD but thanks for the post about the ram ^ ^

Hmmm... there's not much info to go by. Will you be OC-ing with this build? We can cut costs if you're not going to.

At the current state of pricing, there aren't that much Nvidia cards worth getting. The 7970 is at the same price as the 670, but it outperforms the latter.
That said, if you really want Nvidia, then by all means. :)

I wouldn't get the EVGA though. It uses reference cooling, so your GPU will get really high temps when under high load.

Get the Vengeance btw, seen some bad comments on XMS3.

Change the RAM get Corsair Vengence LP or something

Rest is decent for the budget I wouldnt worry about reference coolers on the GPU I run my 670 overclocked on the reference cooler and have yet to get a bad temp even during 8 hour plus sessions. Though keep in mind better cooled cards can only be a little bit more. I like Nvidia so the 7970 can smoke its own **** its "leads" are arguable anyway.

Get a cheap Air cooler like a TX3 or 212 EVO the CPU can be clocked so may as well have the cooler to do so.

hehe long day i nearly typed something rude but then decided on using **** and letting readers decide what 4 letter word to use 😉

i currently own the EVGA card and it runs at 75c with the stock fan profile in bf3 maxed out. it also performs similar to a reference 680.

Thanks for the cooler post. I will have to ask my friend later on tonight to see if he wants to overclock or not.

Thanks, its similar to mine but with lower quality parts. I have no problems with my build so may as well get him the same xD

Reguarding the cooler, the 3570k has a 3.8ghz turbo boost feature that is perfect for most if not all games, at 3.8ghz with the stock cooler what temps will i be looking at? I myself use a h100 with a stock 3570k and i never go over 45c in gaming.

I always tell people get a cheap air cooler Intel stock is cr@p. I currently run 4.0GHz clock on my 3570k 24/7 under a £25 coolermaster 212 EVO to be honest I reckon you could manage that clock speed easy on a even cheaper coolermaster TX-3 (its not an ambitious OC at all)

TX-3
