¿Can mbr sectors get corrupted?

I've a disk with a few corrupted sectors, and I think they've spread because no scanning tool recognises the partitions in the disk. Futhermore, everytime now I turn on the disk, the explorer just crash.

It sounds like the drive is dead.
Yes, any spot on the HDD (including the MBR) can get corrupted.
