What sort of a price do 0.410s go for these days:
Looking for a S/H one for occasional grey squirrel assassination in
the NW?

Not considered an air rifle?
There's some great sport to be had 🙂

And I have a HW80 for sale!
Not the best condition on the outside but it does have an adjustable butt
plate and the innards are all new. The chronograph shows the rifle to be
full powered and the rifle shoots straight. I’m not sure how much it’s
worth but there’s 40 odd pounds of new innards and the stock cost me 25
pounds.

Hi John,
£££££££ ???? 🙂

I recently bought a Falcon Raptor FN19 RB 8 shot full outfit (very cheap)
£500 outfit for £160 wasn't to be missed 🙂
I sold my old BSA Mercury S, which almost paid for it,
and now I have 3 people asking for me to look out for air rifles

So I may as well enquire on yours 1st 🙂

Hi Andy,

I don't know what it's worth. On the top there's a Rhino 4x40 TV type
scope with a AP055 fully adjustable sportsmatch mount. The Rhino scope is
made in Japan and is equal to Hakko scopes. As I say the innards are all
new but the metal work has lost 99% of the blue on the barrel.
Both foresight and rear sight's are original and in place.
The scope has to be worth £30, the mounts are £60 new, so call them £20
and I've spent £65 on the rifle. So I guess I've spent more than the rifle
is worth (£115). I'm not in a hurry to sell the rifle but would sell to a
gen. offer.
One thing I would say is that it stops bunnies. The terminal ballistics
are better than my .22rf at 30 yds with Hobby pellets. I know for a fact
that the rifle is producing the energy (I've got a chronograph) and will
produce 5p size groups at 25yds, so it's working well.

Well,I have a silenced Voere bolt action which is pretty good, and
gives me great sport with the bunnies, but I reckon a .410 would be
more effective in trees around here. Not too keen on shooting 0.22s
into trees, even "shorts".

Hi John,
I have a couple of friends looking for a full powered air rifle, 1 is very

Can you e-mail me direct please?

Any chance of a pic?

25.....
Very quiet and affective tool...

JH,

My friend just bought a second hand .410 for 60 pounds. We shoot rats with
them on a pig farm. The barrrels were a bit pitted but its sixty pounds eh?
I think the bolt actions go for less- 20 to 60 pounds, and the double
barreled are 200+ pouinds. The semi automatic/ pump actions are about 700
pounds (new) as not seen one second hand.

I feel that a .410 is far better than a airifle for shooting suirrels as
well.

All the best

Ian at Lakeland Guns has a handful of 410's in stock. From memory I
think there is a single barrel in good nick for about £90. He also
has a double in cammo.

I suddenly feel very old ;-) I can recall when
a nameless secondhand dealer in Salisbury, and a
similar one in the St Mary's area of Southampton would
sell you a perfectly useable if cosmetically ugly .410
for a fiver. Good ones ran to £10 or £15. Converted
bolt action .303s were sometimes even cheaper. All
with no questions asked ;-) Both shops - and owners -
no longer exist.

This would have been in the late 60s/early 70s.

Like I responded to the OP before someone spoiled my sales pitch by suggesting
an air rifle ;-)

I've got one up for grabs, it's an old single, bolt action BSA .410 in good
nick and I'm open to offers. Located in Suffolk and obviously available to
certificate holders only.

Seen many greys down your way Jaques?
We had one on our patch last year, not seen any since.
That said we don't have any where near the number of reds this year,
but I saw a young un t'other day.

One or two, they are getting up the West coast ( of Cumbria), I think,
93 seen in the valley in the last year). anyway the nearest
"officially sanctioned" shooter is in Workington, (17 miles away) so I
reckon I might get some sport.

We can always pop a few pine martins in the post for you...but
perhaps the cure would be worse than the disease??

No squirrels up here so the little dears have to make do with
pheasants and partridges.

I never realised that Wukinton was so far from your way.
I've mixed feelings, clearly I want the reds to survive, but I
wouldn't mind a bit o'sport with the grey buggers myself.
I also have a strange urge to try eating them....

Squirrel taste okay!

They are a bit more than OK 🙂
My kids fight over them, and when I've been out shooting, I get asked:
"Have you got us a squirrel for the BBQ?"

I will suggest to anyone that shoots them, to try it 🙂

I just read my post above: must have been pissed and had some finger
trouble: NOT 93 seen in our valley (Lorton Vale/ Buttermere), but 2 or
3 (sorry).

Although; they have trapped and shot over a hundred in Borrowdale in
the last 12 months, which is really scarey.

I fear your number error is only out by time Jacques.
Several have been reported in the Cockermouth region in the last year
or so and I'm thinking they most likely came through your patch to get
here.

I know a little local wood, where a 10 minute walk is long enough to visit
every part of it thoroughly, and I counted 21 squirrels in that time.
Now that's a population 🙂
I'm trying my damndest to get the permission

Well, just got back from Lakeland guns with a foldable Lincoln o/u
0.410, lovely little gun. Not too cheap, but will do nicely.

I was a bit surprised that most of the 0,410 barrels I looked down
were obviously not cleaned: if I had a gunshop, my guns would be
spotless, but hey, this will clean up well, nice wood too.

Poor do. The last shotgun I got from Ian was a secondhand Medallist,
that was well cleaned and oiled.
I'm trying to avoid gunshops at the moment, I keep spending too much
money!

Back to squirrels, there was a dead red in one of the barns up at my
brothers place. No obvious trauma so t'wasn't a dog and no sign of
pox. We're speculating it may have got into some rat poison. Daft
ah heck, we have feeders out for the reds partly to avoid this.
