Hi, I think you guys can help me, please, what should I do to repair or at least recover the data from my Transcend StoreJet external storage. It is 1TB btw and divided into two (2) partitions. It suddenly stopped working.

I am using TestDisk and was only able to find 1 of the 2 partitions. It always detect 2 partitions after quick and deep search, the first one list my files present on that partition, but one of them is definitely not the partition I am looking for. So I cannot hit 'write' because I don't what will happen to the other lost partition.

What do you think is the best way to repair the storage drive or recover the data? Thank you.

Hello... 1) if it is "RAW" then you drive has lost the DISK Geometry... Determine setting for that drive model and use "TestDisk" to fix/set it.

2) Sometimes you can fix Geometry by "NTFS Boot sector recovery" load your Backup boot sector, if it is Good and your Primary is Bad. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Step_By_Step

3) A Windows Command fix has also been reported here... http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1947114/fix-external-hard-drive-formatted.html

Start: All Programs: Accessories: Right click on Command Prompt, run as administrator...
at the prompt type:
chkdsk (Your problem drive letter here no parentheses): /x
hit enter.

Your data is still on the Drive it is just confused on how to read it... Using...
Hey grimlockPH. I'd recommend that you open Disk Management and post a screenshot of the info which is shown there about the drive and its partitions if the HDD is recognized. You could try accessing the drive via Linux Live USB/CD to see if the drive is recognized properly and if you'll be able to get your files this way. If that doesn't work then I'd recommend that you try some of the data recovery options from this thread here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
If you manage to recover your files, then I'd recommend that you test the drive with an HDD diagnostic tool to see what's the situation with it and if there are any errors or bad sectors.

Hope that helps.

So I will take the data found in one partition first, right? But would I still be able to recover data from the second partition?

There are bad sectors, worse is that I cannot find the second partition using TestDisk. I've already tried accessing the storage using Zorin OS, but it just won't work. The Disk Management says it's RAW and it's not showing the two partitions.

First about the data recovery - if you have no success with the software you're using now, then I'd recommend that you try some of the other options from the link in my previous post. There's always the option of a professional solution as well, such as a data recovery company.
Having in mind the bad sectors, if the drive is under warranty I'd recommend that you contact the manufacturer's customer support to see if you can RMA it.

I'll try recuva first tomorrow. I will be checking the list out for different ways to recover the data. Thanks btw. Good day.

Your data is still on the Drive it is just confused on how to read it... Using other "Recovery software" or "Windows Fix APPS" to try and fix this could result in further lost data... Repair and Recovery needs to be done at the DOS level, and TESTDISK can do this.
