Hello, I'm hoping you could help me out if you're so generous...

I have a AMD Radeon 6800 from a while ago and noticed the GPU usage is at 0% all the time. Never changes even when playing games. I checked and I do not have Integrated Graphics. I have the display plugged into the GPU NOT the mother board. I always suspected it was working as the fans are always on and it's old so I thought the low frames and huge frame drops were just apart of it. But now seeing my cpu at max usage and GPU at minimum usage I'm seeing that I could have not bad performance if it was WORKING lol.

Thanks in advance

It sounds like the hardware monitoring software is not communicating with the sensors on your card.
As you have checked that your are using that GFX card by plugging it in then it is certainly is working.
0% usage is impossible even idling in Windows as the GFX card displays what you are seeing on the screen.

Try using the free Hwinfo64 monitoring program as it monitors absolutely everything from RAM, CPU to GFX and is renowned for being extremely accurate.

when playing games like fortnite or minecraft the gpu is still always zero percent and the cpu usage spikes to 90 to 100 and im assuming that the gpu isnt even being utilized. even after gaming for about a year now on this i cant believe this and been trying to uninstall drivers, physically remove the drive and dust it off, use amd catalyst control center to try to fix anything, trying settings in game, trying to disable internal graphics processors (which there are non) I am completely lost.... im pretty sure its not task manager because gpu shows up as 0 percent usage elswhere (like win+g key in game)

Hey Andy,

I figured out it was definitely the monitoring software (Task Manager) and I'm assuming that Win+G shows task manager also. I remembered my friend who upgraded my PC had installed TechPowerUp GPU Z shows the load along with everything an anything... good old windows: am I right hahaha.

thanks, cheers!
