Hello all!! I have a friend who wants to get into PC gaming. He told me he has a budget of $1,000. The PC will be for gaming, and we can either go pre built or we can build it. What would you do? He has nothing and needs everything. I will supply him with an OS if we build him one. Please post your pre builts or part list. Thank you!!

"He has nothing"....other than Windows.

So he will need to buy keyboard, mouse, monitor.

That's probably 275 to 300 minimum off the top before you buy the computer case and everything inside it.

Leaving 700 to 725.

Not much.

What are his games, his settings, and most importantly........his expectations?

I will gather more information on that and get back to you. I sholld have done that before I made this thread, I am sorry for that. We talked about it briefly today. He told me he wanted to get into PC and told me his budget. Now it is 2am, I can't sleep and so I decided to jump the gun it seems. Again, I am sorry for this. I willll get back to you as soon as I can. I know the one game he said he really wants to play is New World. And he will need to be able to paly Red Dead 2 as well.

I'd guess a prebuilt that would cost 1000 with monitor could probably be built for 800 if you build it yourself? Give or take a bit.

That's probably the first decision; you build it or not.

A 200 dollar difference could upgrade his video card considerably.......or his CPU. If it's mostly a gaming machine, you probably emphasize the video card rather than CPU.

If you buy a pre-built, you will almost certainly be forced into buying Windows............which you say you already have.

Video card prices are beginning to decline from obscene levels. Keep your eyes peeled for sales on Newegg if you will build it yourself.

Try to find out how much TOTAL storage he would need.

If he has 1000 today, might he have 1100 in a month or two?
