1.200 € for RTX 2080TI? Has Nvidia gone Loco?

I'm just checking prices on geizhals… Crazy prices:

RTX 2080 TI = +1.150 €
RTX 2080 = +820 €
RTX 2070 = no prices yet

If I'm gonna pay +1.150 € for GPU, they better give me minimum +90 fps at 4K max, needed for second generation 4K VR helmets. It's thrown away money, if it can't provide that and benchmark leaks are not looking promising. Why would anyone pay so much for GPU otherwise?

Solution
I was watching a vid on this the other day, in short they were saying Nvidia have reshuffled the naming convention and the 2080Ti is aimed as Titan replacement and not the 1080Ti. Now it’s an interesting idea if it holds up in reviews as the pricing would make more sense.
Prices will be what they will be, while they sound quite expensive to me too, you don't have to buy one.

You can always use what you already have if it suits your needs.

I'm waiting for a lot of good benchmarks and real world test before even considering a 2080Ti.

It makes perfect sense to me. I don't care so much about price if they can deliver performance needed for running 4K VR headset. If performance increase is really only 37 % on average, most of the AAA games will still not be playable maxed out on 2nd gen VR headsets. I'm prepared to pay 1.200 €, if I can max out DCS world 2.5 on Pimax "5K" headset. If not, it would be wasted money. GTX 1080 TI can't deliver it on Pimax "4K".

I've got a feeling, NVidia is doing the same thing Intel was doing on core count before Ryzen. Neglectable real life improvements for premium prices. That's what happens with market duopoly bordering on monopoly. I hope Intel enters a GPU market soon.

Mod Edit for Language

As with any new release of top-end components, you can always expect price inflation due to low supply and high demand. However, if it doesn't perform the tasks you require it to do, there is no one shoving a gun in your back to buy it.

And I won't buy it if NVidia can't deliver performance needed to justify the price tag. Participating in consumer milking by corporate monopolies was never my cup of tea. Not allowing NVLink bridge on RTX 2070 is another sign NVidia is trying to rip us off. You can't even buy 2 or 3 RTX 2070 to get desired performance. Why not? Forced product differentiation, I presume.

They're referring to Titan Volta and not Titan Xp, right? Titan is usually the top, and most expensive of its generation, with xx80ti being a cut-down version. But things are a little different this time. While Titan Volta is more expensive than 2080ti, they're not cut from the same block, so to speak. Perhaps there's a Titan Turing coming later, like they did with Titan Xp?

/facepalm
There's no end to the naming nonsense. I saw an article on TPU about some of the name changes on motherboard models.
No need to fix what's wasn't broken, or at least keep it simple so people don't waste money on features they don't need...

Oh wait...
