I was wondering where I'd be able to get this? Its hard enough just finding a place that has the 1.2ghz Thunderbird.. let alone one w/ 760 chip set. They all come with only SDRAM support. I'm looking for 256mb DDR PC2100/PC266mhz. WOuld I have to buy these seperately? and where? Anyone know of any places that carry this?

Also, is there a particular motherboard you guys think is best suited for this? Obviously one that supports DDR.

And last but not least, when are complete systems of this type gonna be out? Whats taking so long? I heard not until next year will complete systems of the 1.2 ghz Thunderbird come equipped with a 760 chip set and DDR support. Complete Pentium 4 systems sprung up immediately after it released the processor (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong).

Suggestions and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The only place I know where you can buy a system with the new T-BIRD 1.2Ghz and 256MB of DDR SDRAM 266Mhz is micronpc.com

Micron delayed the 266 Mhz FSB w/ PC2100 until VERY early next year. 🙁
The motherboards should be available sometime between the end of december and end of January if you want to order online. Also I personally would wait for the palamino to show up, it should be worth the wait...

.... JC posted a link 12/5 to DDR MoBo bundled with 256MB of PC2100 DDR SDRAM.

I was going to get my Antlon 1.2Ghz with 266 Mhz and DDR Ram.
THere are pretty inexpensive.
I changed my order because for them same price I was able to order from them the same computer only with a P4 1.4 Ghz.

YOU ORDERED A P4 INSTEAD OF A 1.2GHZ W/DDR?! ARE YOU CRAZY?! YOU [-peep-]ING BASTARD!

THATS LIKE TRADING A DURON 700 FOR A PENTIUM2 333!! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!>??!>!?!>!?!

I have been doing my research on what to buy exactly for my computer system. Concerning the processor:
I have been posting up on the message boards all over the internet on what was the best out there. And up to the introduction and even a little after the release of the P4 everyone was saying how good the antlon with DDR is. And how performace/price was better than the pentium's. However in the last couple of weeks new bench marks have been coming out on the P4's performace. Using some the only SSE2 optimized software, and what other's have been now saying that the P4 is running as it is supposed with the SSE2 optimization. I beleive that the chip was not running as good as it should because of the old code. It is like when the pentiun Pro came out. It did not run as fast and its prededessor in the begining but when the codes foir the software was updated it should it's true potential. I am a big fan of AMD and I happy that they are giving intel a run for there money. However I have the oppurtunity to get a P4 @ 1.4 Ghz for the same price as a 1.2Ghz T-bird with DDR. So that is what finally swayed me over. I have been asking people all over the web if they would go for a P4 or a T-BIrd DDR if it cost was the same and most of them including Tom's website said yes.
So that is my story. Give me any feedback on what you think and if I am making the right choice.

You don't understand that the clock speed isn't everything.

I'm sad to say another person has fallen for Intel's clock speed trick.

You'll regret it soon enough (i'll be laughing at you with my 2.0GHz palomino)

If the P4 really is the same price as the T-bird, then I can sympathise with your selection. The biggest selling point for AMD over Intel is price/performance and with the current Intel lineup, you don't get much difference in performance, averaging everything out, than you would with an Athlon. It just usually costs substantially more!

Still, I stand by an earlier statement that with so many major changes just around the corner, now may not be the best time to buy a "top of the range" PC. If you're not looking for TOTR, then AMD is the clear winner.

.... Yes, Athlon 1.2Ghz is only $289 now and faster in 99.9% of apps. than PIV 1.5Ghz at $819 plus high priced DDR RDRAM and high priced ii850 MoBo.
