Ok heres the deal. If i put three 512mb sticks in it refuses to run anything graphic intinsive and crashes.
If I remove one of the sticks, And it doesn,t matter which one It runs fine. Here are the system specs
1.2@1.35 Athlon
Msi k7t pro2-a
3 kingston pc133 cas2 512mb sticks
santa cruz sound card
Geforce2 gts 64mb @250gpu and 420ram
3com network card
Windows xp home edition
20gig and 80 gig 7200rpm wd hard drives
lodgetech cordless freedom keyboard&mouse
Philips 17inch monitor
midiland s4 8200 5.1 dolby digital soround speakers w/decoder
2 game pads/not surethe make both are usb
Antec 1030 soho server casew/300 watt powersupply
Im thinking it maybe the power supply you all have any ideas.

Do you have registered RAM? This is what will make it work or not. More than 1GB, I believe, needs the RAM to be registered. Not exactly sure, though.

 Have you ever tried cooking an egg on your HSF? Tasty.

Well i got it working but i had to run it at 100mhz instead of 133mhz. Sucks because i can run any two of them at 133mhz cas2 without any problems just adding the third one at 133 kills it.The mobo supports 1.5gb of ram so I should have been ok. Also when it reboots it give me a message that my video card caused the problem(xp).

I'm using Win98 and the same thing happened whe i tried to put more than 512 in. Someone on this board recommended that I install Cachemem. I did and it just worked!

😎 😱 :frown:  😡 😱

So that third stick might be bad...

As for Cacheman, it's really intended to optimize the disk cache and solve the memory problem for Win9x/ME. I don't think it's applicable for your system, since you're running WinXP.

well personally i think that ur 3rd slot is alright..
just that WInXP support till 1 GB of RAM i think..u have more than that

Well your problem is not your RAM, its that win98, nor ME, does not support more then 512MB ram..but however you got it to work and utilize more then 512MB of ram, installing cachemem or something..so i have to look more into that

If you wanted to look into that more, the official website's Outertech.com.

What about 1024 MB DDR RAM on a MSI KT266A board with an AthlonXP 1800+ CPU and Windows 2000 Server ?

I just worry about it after whole of these !?

I downloaded and checked the K7T Pro-2 manual. It does say 1.5 GB of unbuffered DRAM is the max which implies 1.5GB is OK.

All this talk about registered and unbuffered (non-registered) memory and overclocking and not overclocking sounds like a familiar problem, though. I just can't remember where I read about it before. I think it must have been a motherboard review back in 2000.

I also have a KT133 chipset (mine's on an ABIT KT7) so I am curious about the outcome of this.

Im about to get a new abit or asus mobo based on the ky133a and a new power supply maybe that will solve the problem. It runs great with 1024mb at 149mhz at cas2.
Also does anyone know how much wattage 1.5gb of ram would use. I tried several search's but i cound't find any info about it.

Well, good luck with the new board.

Which memory are you using that will let you get to 149mhz, CAS2?

I can't directly answer your question about how much power 1.5GB use but this may help. According to the PC133, Intel spec, rev 1.7, 128/256mb modules will consume a max of 1.36watts (memory core + memory I/O) per module, assuming the max sustained voltage of 3.45 volts (3.0 to 3.6 volts is the operable range for PC133 and 3.3 volts is nominal). By my quick calcuation, that means about 0.4 amp per module in the above example. Obviously, if you overclock and overvolt the memory you will be using more. I don't know if 512mb modules use more power.

For more information on this see the link below.

I learnt that more ram stick would limit FSB/RAM highest speed in Overclockers (November 6's update)

So new motherboard may/may not solve your problem.
Really want to try? Good luck.

I had one 128mb stick (sold) with Green memory chips, and assemble by Aldas or Adlas, cann't remember the name properly, can run at 2-2-2 5/7 up to 158mhz.
Later I bought the same brand 256mb stick with Hyundai chips, even at 133mhz, must run at CL3 :-(

Ok thanks everyone tomarrow is the day, New power supply and mobo will be here. msi k7t turbo limited edition and enermax 550watt supply.

Well all 640MB is running right now and at CL2 too. I didn't change anything. Just install cacheman and plug in the stick of 128. It just worked.

after figuring up my power usage on the 3.3v leads. Im way umderpowered Im supprised its running right now. The memory winds up using around 47 watts alone(all three sticks) and the supply only puts out about 50 watts on the 3.3 volt lead, That doesnt leave much for the mobo the video or my 4 pci cards, And would explain the lockups under load.
