Why do I have 1.81TB total space on my new 3TB Toshiba external drive? I re-partitioned it to use all available space in one partition, and Computer Management says that's all there is. I'm running Windows 8.1.
You'd need to re-format the drive in GUID partition table (GPT), instead of MBR in order to be able to use the whole 3 TB capacity. The old standard with MBR partition tables is that they cannot exceed the 2.13 TB limit. So I'd recommend you to go to Disk Management and re-format it. If you have already saved any data on it, I'd suggest you to back it up beforehand as it will be erased with the formatting. Keep me posted if you encounter any issues! Hope this helps you!
