I have cable internet and the cable line is in one room and I have my computer in another room. Can I use a router to hook into my modem and get a signal to my computer inthe other room? How would I configure this?

Yep. Simply plug the router into power, let it boot, plug the network cable coming out of your modem into your router, usually the router will have a specially marked port for the incoming signal. However, take the extra time to set up security such as WPA or WEP so that nobody else can log into your connection. Takes a little extra time, but it's not bad. Also, save money on the router and check out newegg.com.
