Hello folks,
I'm looking at options for my new PC build, and I'd like to ask for some help.
Use-case: Virtualization on Windows host (VMWare Workstation) with at least 3 VMs (2 Windows 10 and 1 Ubuntu) running at the same time and using HDD due to background tasks but without high bandwidth.
Problem: speed of NVMe drives vs number of NVMe drives, for example:
Option 1: 1 x 3500/3300 MB/s 1TB drive for both OS and VMs, where all 3 VMs and the OS will be using the same drive
Option 2: 1x 3500/3300 MB/s 512GB drive for OS/VMs + 1x 2400/2000 MB/s 1TB drive exclusively for VMs, where the disk read/writes will be spread via 2 PCIE.
I assume the second option will be better because the read/writes will take place over 2 PCIEs and even the 2400/2000 MB/s drive should cope fine with 2-3 VMs.
Thanks in advance
