Hi,

These are my PC's hardware & software specs :

1. 160 GB & 1 TB (Barracuda 7200.12/ST31000528AS) Seagage Sata Hard discs that came with no jumpers on them
2. 2 GB DDR 3 RAM (2 No.s)
3. Sata DVD reader/writer
4. Intel chipset motherboard (Less then 2 years old)
5. Windows 7 ultimate

I have my OS installed on 160 GB hard disc & I use 1 TB hard disc as a storage. Everything was working fine till last week. Now all of a sudden the 1 TB hard disc is not getting detected by my computer. Here are the few troubleshooting steps that I have gone through by myself.

1. Tried doing a power drain
2. Tried with other SATA cables, power cables & SATA ports
3. Disconnected 160 GB & just tried connecting the 1 TB hard disc
4. Also am able to feel the the disc spinning inside the 1 TB HDD
5. 160 GB HDD gets detected on all 4 SATA ports fine
6. Tried reinstalling the OS on 160 GB HDD
7. Checked the BIOS settings but still 1 TB HDD was undetectable

Is there anyway that I could make my 1 TB HDD to get detected by my computer. Any help would be much appriciated. Thanks in Advance.

The last resort is a data recovery service. I've read that Seagate does a good job for ~$350 and you only pay if they are able to recover your data.

If it is not being detected by the BIOS and you have tried the steps that you listed, then it sounds like your drive is dead. Is it still under warranty?

The only other thing to try would be to try the drive in another computer.

Not if the drive is not recognized by the BIOS.

As I said, give it a try in another computer to be sure.

I would at least try out a few freeware/cheapware partition and data recovery programs if it feels like the drive is spinning and not making a lot of noise (like clicking where the heads are slamming aroung). Look at some of the EaseUS and Paragon products as well as Recuva.
