1 VSS (ground) pin is missing, is there a possibility that CPU won't work without it?

1 ground pin (VSS) is missing in my Z87 motherboard (asus maximus VI formula). People say CPUs work without them. Is it always true or is there a possibility that CPU might not work without a VSS pin?

The background of the missing pin seems black, if that matters.

it may or may not work. depends on how the internal of the cpu is wired so you would really have to ask intel that.

inside the cpu if the ground is interconnected with the other ground pins(bridged with other grounds) the voltage that would normally flow to that grounds now has to flow to other grounds. so the current flow on the other ground pins and it should work. but if that ground is not bridged with other grounds inside the cpu then what ever circuit(s) that are depending on that ground will not work and you will have a dead cpu.

that ground also could be there just to reduce electrical interference between signal lines (a ground wire is run in between two signal lines to prevent cross talk) this could cause random system instability.

it could also be just there because they had no actuall pin they wanted there. (really a non connected pin) and just decided to make it a useless ground and you wont have any issues.

honestly there as no real way to know but I'm sure if you ask intel they will say you need ever pin (though in all reality I personally say it will very likely run with it missing based off of the location of this ground pin)
