I purchased a latest lappy which has SATA 3 hard drive slot at the bottom same size as my old lappy(HP Compaq Nw8440). My 2006 Nw8440 hard drive is Fujitsu 80GB SATA 1/2 probably but definitely not SATA3. Can i use the SATA 1/2 Hard Disk on the latest SATA 3 hard drive? Thanks n regards in advance.

SATA I/II/III is backwards and forwards compatible.

However...a 12 year old HDD 80GB drive is on its last legs.
And I hope you weren't expecting to use an OS that lives on that old 80GB drive.

:)) chief 07. I had Win 7 Ultimate running on it till a month ago but the Ati fire GL graphics card crashed permanently however, the hard disk is still great its just old and less storage but i liked it. So youre saying that i could use it onnthe new lappy if i try to ryt?

The physical drive, yes.
The OS on it? Almost certainly not. It is unlikely to 'just boot up'.

Your new laptop has a drive in it.
That drive already has Win 10 installed on it.
It runs as expected.

Correct?

What are you planning on doing with the old drive? A "backup" of it is of no consequence.
At most, you can copy off any personal docs. But only if it is connected as a secondary drive. You cannot boot up from that drive, in the new laptop.
