[SOLVED] 100% CPU usage when playing games

So I've been having issues whenever I am playing games where my cpu is at 100% usage, where 85-90% of that being from that said game. Last saturday everything was working fine, nothing too out of the ordinary, was playing far cry 5, rainbow six:siege, and smite just fine with some buddies with discord and even a tab or two of google chrome open with the cpu usage being at max 80%

Then all the sudden on Sunday, I booted up far cry 5 and was greeted to extreme frame drops, looking at the steam counter, only 40 fps MAX. So of course, i went to task manager and saw my cpu usage was at 100%, with Far cry 5 using up 90% of that. I then restarted the game, uplay, steam, and computer with no effect, the issue persisted. I went to Rainbow six:siege, and the same issue happened, but this time with no noticable frame drops, which I thought was weird.

However, what is even more confusing is Smite, Civ 5, Overwatch, and CS:GO all dont use up 100% of my cpu, but are relatively average. I've looked on many other threads to help, asked many people with nothing to show for it. I've updated all my drivers, windows updates, ran virus checks, and made sure my anti-virus wasn't the problem. A theory I had was that it had something to do with Uplay because both far cry 5 and r6 are ubisoft games, and I can't back that up with any more games because I dont have any, but I still dont know what would cause that issue overnight.

Specs :
CPU = i5-8600
GPU = GTX 1080
RAM = 2x8 GB sticks

Thanks for the help, I dont have a clue what the issue could be

Solution
use ddu uninstaller and reinstall the nvidia.com driver

run 3dmark basic edition , click on compare result online after that and post the address from your upcoming browser
https://www.techspot.com/downloads/5775-3dmark.html

Is the game using the GTX 1080 and not the integrated HD graphics of you APU? Monitor cable is plugged into the GTX?

Check local game files within steam

check SSD/HDD with its manufacturer´s tool, eventually update firmware if available

check memory with memtest.org USB autoinstaller (boot from the usb flash drive made)

Eventually update the BIOS of your motherboard within BIOS

Which antivirus are you using? Extra Firewall installed?
Try malwarebytes to search for virus again

What drives are you using and are they almost/or full? Last time you used ccleaner to declutter the drives and use a registery cleaner to de clutter those also. One last thing what power settings are you using in windows? Try using high performance power settings.
I use wise free registry cleaner.

All Core temps never went above 60 degrees Celcius when playing R6, Far Cry 5 was the same, averaging 60 degrees Celcius. Clock speed is 4.09 GHz which isnt even supposed to be possible on this cpu i thought, i was under the impression it would cap at 3.1 GHz.

Can you elaborate on that? I've never heard of a declutter program or things you just said

I checked for another reply, and found my clock speed to be 4.9 GHz when it has a base speed of 3.1, how can i get that back to the base clock speed?

GPU usage is always around 95-100% clock speed 1900 MHz

Nothing new installed, after I started seeing those issues I downloaded MSI afterburner but other than that, nothing

Ok so there is a free program called CCLEANER and registry cleaner called Wise Registry cleaner. Download those and have the programs analyze your drive/s. It will show you how much junk files there are and ask you if you want them to clean them out. If you have never done it then you will have tons of files to clean. Also run a virus and malware check on your system. And if you downloaded msi afterburner the program probably downclocked your card without you realizing it and thus the low performance all of a sudden.. Here are settings I use on my gtx 1080 -Core Voltage = 100% - Power Limit =120 - Temp Limit = 92 - Core Clock =100 or 200 - Memory Clock=650(YES 650) Your Gtx 1080 is now an overclocked beast. Just set up a slightlty more aggressive fan cooling using RTTS. I use matching numbers IE. 50 degrees 50% fan power etc. One last thing while playing game use Task Manager to see if some program is running in the backround while gaming. (What motherboard are you using?)

I am having same issue on several PCs. All have fresh installs Windows 10 Pro (not activated) installed. This must be a Windows 10 issue because it seems to be affecting Intel and AMD user as well as Nvidia and AMD users. It also is affecting a wide range of Hardware configuration from Low end i3 and i5 builds to 9900K with RTX 2080 and even AMD 8 Core and 16 core builds. Really hope someone finds a solution soon, this sucks!
