Sometimes my computer will unexplainedly jump to 100% disk usage. It's a new Toshiba laptop, and I've tried finding solutions, but disabling Superfetch and Windows Search didn't work for me. What do you guys recommend?

Specs:
Manufacturer: Toshiba
Model: Qosmio X70-A
Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40 GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB
System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

Also bear in mind that new Toshiba laptops come loaded with all manner of unnecessary Toshiba startup utilities installed which are not vital for Windows to run properly or simply duplicating similar utilities which Windows already has built-in. Chop those Toshiba utilities down a bit and you'll probably notice a big difference, not to mention Windows loading faster.

It certainly made a difference on my Satellite laptop. I just googled each Toshiba utility in turn to help me decide which to keep and which to uninstall. Out of 15 I think I ended up removing 11 of them with no ill effects whatsoever.

Try this:
Go to: Control Panel/Troubleshooting/System and Security
Run troubleshooters to resolve problems with: Windows Update, Search and Indexing, and System Maintenance.
Reboot

Which applications do you recommend uninstalling? I'm using the computer for gaming and internet use.

I had the same issue, on a Toshiba laptop, but I think this problem is across many manufactures, not just Toshiba. I know someone with a Toshiba running Windows 7 and its works just fine. I tried the 'solutions' offered by others and nothing worked for me. I even reinstalled Windows 8. No joy. So I created my own solution. I blew away Windows and installed FreeBSD OS, and then installed GNOME3 as my desktop. My family loves it, and the computer is incredibly fast. We like it so much that my other computers also run FreeBSD OS, one running XFCE4 desktop, and the other running KDE4 desktop.
