Hello, today in the morning I opepend my laptop which runs Windows 10 and noticed it is almost UNUSABLE, it is so laggy and can barely do anything.

I hardly can open any file or program after a very long time of waiting.

I also hardly opened task manager and saw that my disk usage is at 100% even I am not using anything at the moment and everything is closed, it won't drop down.

I will also add that my HDD is a fairly new as I just replaced it around a month ago because the other one died on me.

I noticed that the disk usage finally drops down form 100^ after around 10 minutes after the startup and raising again at around 70% then drop at 20% then 50% and so on (all happening fast,it is not stable)

I do not know what to do really, it affects even my CUP ( I think so because my GPU is at over 50% constantly ) When I don't click anything or not move my mouse, everything goes to under 10%. And I also noticed when I right click on desktop and then hit Refresh like 3 or 4 times my CPU goes to 80% for a little bit.

Thank you in advance.

Link to image of my Task manager: ( the screenshot is made after the 10-15 minutes and I did it when it was lower, but with same programs you see here my disk usage is getting so high and my CPU too)

EDIT: Now after around 1 hour of usage my disk is back to normal BUT my CPU still goes high ,over 60% when I right click and refresh or click around my pc AND it goes from around 5% when not touching my pc at all to 30% when I fastly move my mouse on the desktop.

I do not know if when I will restart my pc it will go back to that stage of impossible to use but I would still like some advice.

I know I didn't explain very well but I hope you understand.

Solution
1. If your going to replace a Drive in a Laptop move to a SSD it ends that entirely, you would only see high disk usage for more than a few seconds.

2. Perform a Clean Boot this will help determine if the issue is Windows "Mostly from bad updates or corrupt drivers" or 3rd party. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

3. Move to a High Power plan when on a charger this stops the Drives from attempting to go into a low power mode, Western Digital Green/Blue are bad about that as are most other Smart drives.

4. Disable MSI Mode.. Issue in Windows 10 that effects mostly lower end laptops.

5. Disable Windows Defender with 3rd Party AV

6. Disable Windows Notifications as many as you don't...

7. Upgrade Memory (RAM) If you have 4GB.. that is the bare minimum for anything today.

If i were you I would use the disk cleaning software on windows 10, and also try to clean your applications opened on start-up. That can slow down a pc tremendously, especially a laptop, seeing as the longer you waited, the further the disk usage went down after startup. The other culprit is the ram, as laptops have relatively bad ram and effect the speed of the pc.

For me, after a good month's search, the trick was to remove the Skype app; I had the desktop Skype application installed, but some Windows update (probably the October major rollout) installed the Skype app too. After removing the Skype app, disk usage went straight away down to normal and the PC is usable again.
