Hi guys,
I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 but until now its performance dissapoints me. It has an Intel i7 processor, an integrated Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200, 4gb of RAM and a 500GB hdd. I noticed that with even the most simple tasks, like starting a web browser, the disk usage rises close to 100%. I have searched online for possible causes or solutions but found nothing. Any insights are much appreciated!

Hi there QuintenZ,

You can try disabling several Windows services like: Superfetch, BITS and Windows Search. Check this out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2027511/windows-disk-usage-100-problem.html
In case the issue persists, you can try something simple as just attaching the drive with different cables(SATA and especially power ones) to a different SATA port.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then I guess you need to test the drive in order to check out it's health status: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

If there is something wrong with it, you need to back up the data stored on it as soon as possible.
