Hey, I've been having problems recently with my current system.
After long use of my PC the memory and disk usage will spike up to 100% and stay around that.
I have looked at countless forums and posts which have been unhelpful.

Things I have tried:

  • disabled superfetch
    disabled schedules
    turned off tips about windows
multiple virus scans on multiple applications
searching for new drivers for ALL of my hardware
    dskchk.exe
    net.exe stop "Windows Search"
    disabled flash
    disabled ndu.sys

Since I am getting new drives soon I am not too worried about my hard drive, but I am worried about my RAM as it definitely should not be that high. As I am writing this my RAM usage is at 80% with nothing taking up anywhere close to that amount in task manager...

My Specs
CPU: Intel i5 4670k @ 3.4GHz
GPU: GTX 970 Twin Frozr 4GB
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600Mhz
HDD: 2TB unknown brand
OS: Windows 10 Home
Motherboard: EXDISPLAY Gigabyte GA-H87-HD3 Socket 1150

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :D

Hey there, Harry Arnold!

Even if you're not worried about your HDD, I'd still recommend you to test it using one of the third-party utilities in this thread (since you're unable to determine its brand yet): http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
It will help you determine the HDD's health and SMART status.
Another thing you should try is disabling and even re-installing the anti-virus/malware software as it might also be the source of the issue.
Since you are concerned about the RAM, I'd suggest you to run memtest and see if there's anything you should be worried about there: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-1906201/test-memory-memtest.html

You should also consider upgrading the hardware...

You should also consider upgrading the hardware drivers from the hardware manufacturer's website. Windows Updates tends to put more generic drivers that could also cause some headaches.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! :)

FM2A88x Extreme 6+ mobo, Athlon X4 860k Kaveri black edition, EVGA GTX 960 FTW, Possibly the same Corsair Vengeance 4GB x2 at 1600 the blue sticks WD 750GB Black Edition laptop mechanical drive. I just had this same issue while communicating over Facebook Instant Messenger my drive spiked to 100% use which I was able to stop just by running CCleaner. Great success??? NO...immediately after my memory has now started a slow increase to 100% load. Killed FB back down to 57% and now just noticed in my TM Google Chrome is showing like 32 instances open even though I only have one window open with 2 tabs. Gonna post this then kill the Chrome instances in TM. I noticed this load up though strangely after reconfiguring my DNS to the 1.1.1.1 Google Server. Hope this can shed some light to anyone diagnosing this problem.
