Hi guys -- could use some recommendations on a build for my boyfriend. Some notes below on the goals of the build and things I don't think he should compromise on.

Goal
  • PC that can run BF4, Apex, Anthem, etc. at a decent enough graphics level (he's not expecting/desiring ultra settings)
  • Build that can be upgraded over time in the graphics, ram, power, and storage departments
  • Best performance for the price until we can work our way up down the road to the better things in life
Preferences
  • 100% want an SSD we can set and forget for the boot drive
  • Want a CPU and Mobo that can stand the test of time -- I've don't really want to fool with swapping those kinds of things out down the road (but I would under duress)
Budget
  • Realistically, if we could do something around $1000 that would be amazing -- I'd say he's probably capped out at $1250 max considering he'll want to use some of the non-core budget for peripherals
For my last two builds, I camped the forums/site until I found a build I liked, tweaked it, and built it. Things like: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-pc-builds,4390.html and before that, the Quarterly Build Challenges (or whatever they were called).

Suggested to him we ask here, considering his budget, and the preferences I mentioned before.

For reference, this is my current setup for my second build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/D3LqnH (and what he's been playing on when I'm not home)

Put this together Nov 2016.

His day-to-day PC is my first build that is now a solid 7 years old and ready to retire.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be extremely appreciated.

Side note

Also floated the idea of buying a pre-built and just upgrading that over time, but I don't know that I trust that plan. If you guys know of any reliable options on that front, open to suggestions.

Cheers.

The m2 SSD isn't as fast as others out there but it's 1tb for not too much premium over a 240gb m2 SSD + 1tb HDD combo we usually reccomend.

You could probably do some mild overclocked with the motherboard and stock heatsink if you really felt the need. Otherwise I tried to cram alot of performance for the price in this.

With this case you will probably have to remove the HDD cage, but you can always use a 5.25in converter to 3.5 or 2.5in if you wanted too. Or find another case, there are a lot of good cases out there.

AM4 will be supported till 2020, Intel changes things up quite a bit more frequently though.

This will be more balanced on the things you ask for, so i choose better CPU And motherboard since you want those to last in the long run. You can even get a RX 590 instead of the Radeon RX VEGA 56 to lower the price.
