1000$ Gaming Build

Solution
You'll want a Z97 motherboard with that CPU. Z87 needs a BIOS update to support Haswell-R, which is hard to do if you don't have normal Haswell CPU lying around.

16GB is also overkill for gaming, 8GB is enough. If you're doing editing/rendering/etc 16GB is a wise choice though.

For the mobo the Asus Z97-A is a good choice without going overboard cost-wise.

Everything else looks excellent!

First, I agree with ^.
i5 4690k with z97 will be suitable for you !
Also, 16gb is really a waste of money. 8gb will be plenty for you to game and work.

Phanteks Case is better,
However, if you really like that case, that fine too.

Overall, it is a great build.

(Also, I change the GPU to EVGA superclocked, because it has higher clock)

Alright thanks. I will look into it!

I would stick with the MSI. There is a heatpipe issue with the EVGA ACX 970's. They don't line up right, so one of pipe is only like a third on the block. Basically, it doesn't cool the unit properly. You can just overclock the MSI to the EVGA's clock speed.

From what I can tell it cools perfectly fine though, even with that design flaw.

Thanks for the build recommendation. The reason I don't tweak the build a bit is because I'm getting everything from a local microcenter. (I don't trust ups or fedex) I'm simultaneously looking for good pc parts and checking if they have any in stock at microcenter.com but, I'll look into the gpu too. Thanks.
