$1000 New Gaming Build - Advice needed

Sep 23, 2011
Approximate Purchase Date: Hopefully before BF3 comes out.

Budget Range: I'm definitely willing to go as high as $1000, higher is fine too but I don't really think I need the most expensive and newest parts.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming definitely (BF3, SWTOR, Flight Simulator, SC2, etc...), watching videos, surfing web.

Parts Not Required: Monitor, speakers, mouse, OS, keyboard. I think that's it...

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Memory Express is less than a 5 minute walk from my house. I will link to parts I'm looking at on their website.

Country of Origin: Canada (Alberta)

Parts Preferences: Leaning towards AMD, nVIDIA.

Overclocking: I have a vague idea about what overclocking is but for what I plan on getting...is it really necessary?

SLI or Crossfire: I don't claim to know enough about either...for simplicity's sake lets say no for now.

Monitor Resolution: 1920 x 1080. Out of curiosity what does this directly affect in terms of decision making and overall performance??

Additional Comments: Quiet would be nice, but that's not a big issue for me.

For now I'm looking at keeping my harddrive, I can't remember exactly, but I believe I have this: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black 7200rpm SATA III w/ 64MB Cache.

Here's the "subject-to-change" list of parts I'm looking at:

CPU - AMD Phenom™ II X4 980 Black Edition 3.7GHz w/ 8MB Cache

Mobo - I honestly do not know. I was looking at AM3/AM3+ (don't know enough about either). I need it to support my 5.1 Logitech speakers, and the processor / video card obviously. I guess have at the very least 4 usb ports on the back if possible as my current MS-7327 does.

Video Card - eVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti SuperClocked 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI

RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Dual Channel Kit (2 x 4GB), Cerulean Blue ... This is currently on sale. I'm not picky, 8GB of RAM for cheap is obviously good enough for me so feel free to suggest otherwise.

Power Supply - Antec High Current Gamer 620W Power Supply

Case - Antec Nine Hundred II V3 Gamer Case

BD - LG BH12 Super Multi Blue 12x Internal SATA Blu-ray Disc Writer

Thanks for looking this over I really appreciate any time spent in giving advice or comments in general. Basically I'm going to drop my harddrive into the above, which obviously would be better going brand new, but I can upgrade that easily enough later. Re-installing OS takes a bit of time which at the moment I'm feeling kind of lazy about.

Thanks a lot guys!
