ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Here is what I have so far:

Motherboard:
Please suggest. Need 1136 socket and between Asus or Gigabyte (all thats available to me in my area). Also I am looking at whether I should get 6 ram slots or just 4, I don't know whether its worth the $100 difference between two motherboards I've seen made by Gigabyte. I want to save money in this area if possible. I would upgrade in 3-4 years.

My motherboard options are:

ASUS P6T / P6T-Deluxe
GigaByte EX58-UD3R / EX58-UD5

CPU: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Retail

HDD: Standard 500GB HDD, I am not sure if I need anything fancy like high RPM or whatever.

GPU: 1GB ATI 5770

PSU: Lian-Li Silent Force 650 - will this be enough for this setup and if I choose to crossfire in the future?

I really thank you for taking the time to look through this for me. Please advise me if this build is good and any opinions on what motherboard to get. This is the first time I'm making my own computer.

Or even better X3440 HT support @ 239.99. Not sure of the availability in his area however.

Over all on your budget, as p55ibexpeak pointed out, 1156 is probably the way to go. You'll see very little noticeable benefits from 1366 even while rendering. The triple channel memory is nice, but you're paying a 200$ premium for it, and it's only going to benefit you 2-3pct at most.

Here's a review that covers the 860 vs 920 using 3dsmax and Blender (while it's not maya it's at least representative). The 920 edges it @ 3dsmax 9, but lags behind in Blender.
