ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

I use Womble DVD video editor and Sony Vegas to edit videos. Mostly building a audio and video library for a home media server. My current machine will handle working on most video which can be SD or HD, but, when I have to render it, it can take a lifetime (start a 1-2 hr HD video renders in 12 plus hours? :( ) If I don't like the results I'm back to square one? No thanks.

So, I'm considering building a new system that has the horsepower to get the job done. From reading around, it sounds like an i7 processor is the best for this, but, the AMD processor can get the job done and leave me a little change in my pocket.

I left off the video card for now because the on board video should be able to handle my needs (I think) plus save me some money. I haven't done in gaming in years, but would like to, so I may add a video card in the future.

Opinions in any direction are appreciated. Some these prices represent combo deals. I cut out the excess verbiage for readability.

Between my original plans and Batuchka's ideas, I made a few changes. Dropped memory to 4 GB for the initial build. Memory is cheap and easy to add, so I thought I'd see how it would do with this configuration. If there are issues, I can bump it up later. I dropped the Blu-ray burner for now. These will only get cheaper and better. I really don't have a big need for it at this time, so I saved a few dollars there.

The SSD is cool, just hope it performs and lasts. I'm going to use it primarily for OS and swap file. What's the best way to back up an SSD once everything is installed and stable? If it dies, I want to be able to get back up and running reasonably quick.

thanks
Mike
