1000 WATT PSU or 1300 WATT PSU

Hi there! 4 days ago I bought a EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G1 1000W Gold Modular Power Supply

I actually meant to buy the G2 so I think I'm thinking I will return it

But now I'm honestly thinking of buying a larger case like a Corsair Graphite Series 760T have some simple liquid cooling. I also Have a 2tb WD Black Hard drive in the computer with a 120gb SSD and a 4tb Red WD Hard drive (of which I plan to add 3-5 more) I would like the computer to run almost 24/7 since it hosts my media center for my entire house. Also has 16gb of ram and a bluray player.

So Im now wondering... Should I get a 1300 WATT PSU running so many fans/water cooling 5-8 hard drives my GPU is only a EVGA 660 ti boost dont really plan on doing an SLI configuration any time soon.

From what you listed, a 650 watter would be more than enough. One high end GFX card draws as much power as 30 hard drives.

Each fan adds 2 watts

Your GPU draws only 133 watts

You could power 2 or 3 of those w/ 1000 watts

The CPU and the GPU are the primary power consumers in any system. A drive is ~10W, a fan is usually ~2-5W, i wouldn't expect a water cooling pump to be much more than 25W. Without a pair of 295x2s it'd be really hard to use a 1kW PSU, let alone a 1300W PSU.

running 24/7 means a majority of idle time, so efficiency is your main purchasing point. not max wattage

Why are you watercooling 5-8 hard drives? It's been proven time and time again that watercooling HDDs brings zero benefit whatsoever. Same goes for RAM WC

I feel like you misread that. He wants to run alot of fan and water cooling, as well as several HDDs along with the rest of his specs.
Not water cooling the HDDs.

As for the PSU, you dont need nearly that much, somewhere near 650-700w.

Okay Thanks guys I wont go any higher then... But what about the G1 and G2 should I get the G2? Its the one I originally was going to get. And yes I was just going to water cool the CPU.
