@Barty1884 Question becomes, in terms of percieved image quality, what would be better a TN panel with 2k (2560x1440-QHD) resolution, or the 1080p IPS panel that you suggested.
It doesn't though. TN, you're looking at fairly limited viewing angles, poor backlighting and maybe some additional motion blur
IPS, generally, has improved colour reproduction & viewing angles.
Resolution adds a totally separate layer of dicsussion.
Perhaps VA are worth considering? A solid balance of TN and IPS - better than TN colour reproduction, higher brightness, better viewing angles. Combine that with a higher refresh rate, and finding one with decent levels of input lag, might be a better solution all-round?
For example, I run the 32" version of this panel - I found it on sale for ~$450 at London Drugs around boxing day, doesn't appear to be available in Canada anymore though.

Solid, but lacks FreeSync/G-Sync. 2560x1440 144Hz VA
Over budget but, for what you want... I think almost anything will be.
