1024x768, the only resolution I can choose for old games in Win XP.

Hello, lads.
So, I have Windows XP in dual boot to play older games without any problem. These games have pre-set resolutions like 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024. When I adjust the resolution in game in Windows XP, the resolution goes, at max, 1024x768. When I try to play these games in Windows 8, I can choose the resolution of 1280x1024 with no problem.
My question is, why can't I choose 1280x1024 in Windows XP?
I have a 550 Ti as my graphics card with the latest drivers availabile for Win Xp and my monitor resolution is 1600x900.

it can be the xp dont support 1280x1024 in your system or lack of proper drivers
