Hello,

Is an i5 10400F with 2666MHz RAM better than a 3500x paired with 3200MHz RAM?

What should I buy?

GPU: RTX 2060
Monitor: 1440p 144hz

Thanks.

The fact that the 10400 has hyper threading makes it a better cpu plain and simple.

Single core wise and the gaming the majority of the time there's not a great deal between them at all.

That hyperthreading can/and will make a difference on certain titles though.

Can't you stretch to a ryzen 3600/x?

I would probably take a ryzen 3600 over the intel at a similar price simply for better platform upgradability even though it has slightly worse ipc.

The intel combo is better if you want to game and do workloads that depends of faster single core speed and minute burst loads. If you want to get a CPU for moderate workloads, gaming, with great features and future-proof till 2-3 years you can go with the Ryzen Combo. Currently Iam using 3600XT paired with RTX 2060s from Galax and 2×8gb kit of ADATA XPG 3200Mhz. In my opinion I would like tell you to go with the Ryzen combo since AMD has better boost algorithm which makes the cores to run at higher clocks with better stability and longevity.
