1050 or 1080 lcd monitor?

What would u recommend a monitor at 1650x1050 or one at 1650x1080. Will be using it for PC gaming and ps3 gaming, but 85% for the PC. As games on PC are 1650x1050 supported but not 1650x1080 would it be better to get a 1650 x1050 moitor as id always be downscalled from the native resolution if I had a 1650x1080 resolution monitor. Yet i heard you can force a game to run at 1080, but is that recommened, any disadvantages and does it work for all games?

There are no such monitors that are 1650 x 1050 or 1650 x 1080 resolution.

The correct monitor resolutions are:

1680 x 1050 = 20" - 22" monitors

1920 x 1200 = 24" - 28" monitors


1920 x 1080 = resolution of HDTVs and new PC monitors. These PC monitors comes in two sizes 22" and 24".

Games that do not support 1920 x 1080 will probably look distorted or maybe the top/bottom parts may not be displayed.

woops meant to say 1680x1050 and 1680x1080. But i heard with a 1680x1080 monitor and can just change a command and it changes the resolution to your native resoution for u?

All new monitors are new been made at 1680x1080 or most of them?

There is no such thing as a 1680 x 1080 monitor or TV.

When people say 1080 they mean 1920 x 1080.

22"1920x1080

Now back to my question. Would it be better to get a 1680x1050 or a 1920x1080 22" monitor. 85% of the games I will play will be PC games rest ps3 games. The 1920x1080 would be better for the ps3 as the games would run in 1080p Full HD, but then playing PC games (85% of the time) would I run into trouble? If games do not support 1920x1080 it would mean that it would then have to downscale my native resolution to 1680x1050. Do any PC games at all support 1920x1080 resolution?
And if they dont I read that you can just force the game to run your native resolution by changing some commands, could this be done for all games?

Also I thought to go from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 resolution would you need more then a ATI 4850 512mb graphics card? Are FPS effected by the first numbers such as 1920 and 1680 or ONLY by the last such as 1200, 1080 and 1050?

Sorry for all these questions, but I dont wont to buy the wrong monitor, but one other is it true that running 1920x1080 on a 22" monitor is going to make text and icons really small compared to the majority of 22" at 1680x1050

Performance is affected by the resolution which is determined by both horizontal and vertical number of pixels.

The ATI 4850 should be fine for 1920 x 1080 for many games. But it depends on how much eye candy you want and if you will be running your games in DirectX 9 or DirectX 10 (Windows Vista only). For more info post in the Graphics/Video Card section. I play games (Crysis, Fallout 3, Half-Life 2) @ 1920 x 1200 with a Radeon 1900XT 512MB which is good enough for now.

Some older games (pre-2002) may not be able to be displayed at 1920 x 1080 so they can be distorted. Solutions (if any) will be different for every game. I recently bought the Asus VK246 monitor (1920 x 1080), and I installed good ol' Far Cry (2004) recently and it doesn't have any issues with distortion. Maybe I'll fire up Knights Of The Old Republic (2003) just to check it out.

The Asus VK246 monitor is for my HTPC which I don't really use for gaming. The monitor basically serves to "monitor" processes every now and then and also do other basic stuff.

I have an nVidia 9600GT installed in my HTPC. I have already created a thread about the Asus VK246 in this section of the forum which will be updated once I have prepared a review of this monitor.

would you see any difference from 1080p and 720p on a 22" while playing on a ps3, because the screen is soo small, compared to what you would normally play it on would be a 30+ inch hd tv. Is it true to say you only really see the difference of 720p and 1080p on larger hd tv's
