Would getting a GTX 1050 ti as a physx card for my 1080 be a good idea? It seems attractive because it draws all the necessary power from the PCIE connection, so less cable management. The physx thing would be secondary, I want more HDMI ports, 1 more specifically, and the extra displayport would just be extra. Are there better alternatives? Running a 1080 and 1050 ti would only require one display driver as well right? I also plan on upgrading to the 1080 ti whenever that drops, that shouldn't complicate things?

It should work fine as long as your motherboard supports enough channels to run both cards. It would only require one driver, and upgrading to a 1080ti wouldn't be a big deal.

Another option may be splitting the displayport on your 1080 into two HDMIs. I'm not sure exactly what you plan to use it for or how useful that would be however.
