EDIT, thanks. Thread solved, now just looking for a 24" 1080p 144Hz 1ms VESA , no speakers panel:

Windows 8.1 64
SSD
Intel i7-4790K (Not overclocked and won't be)
16 GB RAM (2 sticks vengeance ddr3)
Motherboard GIGABYTE Z97-HD3 LGA 1150 rev 2.0
GeForce GTX 1050ti 4GB not overclocked and won't be
EVGA supernova 650 Watt G2 80 plus Gold.

I've already looked into overclocking and decided I'll never mess with it.

I've been OK with my 27" 1080p 60Hz 2ms monitor, but it doesn't have VESA mount for the arm I just bought.
So I wanted to get a refurbished 4K monitor for around $200 but learned it can't run games with this system. A ~$100 1080p 27" would actually be better. I also don't want to learn to mess with settings to downscale a 4K monitor to run a 1080p game, and also people agree it'll still look a bit Fk'd up. Same with a 1440p monitor.

I don't want to spend ~$500 on a GPU either right now especially while GPU prices are still high.

Then I learned about refresh rate and how 120Hz or 144Hz is much better than 60Hz I have.
I play CSGO and have no urge to play an y other online multiplayer games as of now. I saw comparisons of 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 144 Hz in CSGO and I really want the 120HZ or 144Hz but can my system even run it? Something about bottlenecking?

Other than CSGO, I just want to play maybe some one-player games but not sure which ones, but there are tons of older 1-player games I'll be interested in - I'm more interested in overall gameplay instead of amazing graphics but of course amazing graphics are great.

I would of course also prefer to watch 4K video but then gaming would be ruined unless I put about another $1,000 into the system.

Eventually I will get a 4K panel and a better GPU when the prices come down and might have to upgrade CPU and motherboard and everything at that time but as for now I'm not sure what to get or what this system can even run.

I found this monitor seems like a great deal

New 27" 1080p 144Hz 2ms Dell D2719HGF for $190 shipped.
Should I get this monitor, or my GPU can't run it at 144Hz?

Or just get a 27" 60Hz 1080p for around $100 used and save the other $100 of a 144Hz towards a better GPU and a 4K monitor (eventually)? But then the 4K monitor would probably be 60HZ unless I spend like thousands on it which I'm not going to.

I want to stick with 27" even though a 24" would give a better condensed picture I prefer the larger workspace.
thank you so much.

With your hardware, you will be able to achieve 1080p, 144 fps but only in games such as csgo, dota and League. When playing anything more demanding, not only your gpu but also your cpu will prevent you from achieving 144hz.

This doesn't have to be a problem though because the Dell D2719HGF is a freesync monitor with a dynamic range between 40 and 144hz. This means that as long as your gpu can push at least 40 fps, the monitor will dynamically match that refresh rate and deliver a low latency and tear-free image. (you first have to enable gsync though)

As for a 4k monitor, I wouldn't recommend anything slower than a gtx 1080 ti/rtx 2070. Otherwise you'll lock yourself out of some games since you won't be able to achieve 60fps.

I think you will have trouble trying to run 60 Hz at 144 fps at higher settings.

I've seen my GTX 1060 have trouble with some games holding 60 fps at 1080p on higher settings.

For CSGO a 144HZ and 1050ti should be fine, I googled this already and it is said that an i7-4790K with 1050ti can easily run 144Hz on CSGO, even without the pretty good i7-4790K I have.

I have FPS shown in-game and all graphics details maxed from what I can tell, and it's showing fps in the 200s with my current set up. Side note, they say more fps is better in CSGO, not to cap it at anything.

But I'm leaning towards just getting a $100 used 60 Hz 1080p 27" for now and then upgrading everything later when prices come down. But can't I also just set a 144Hz 1080p panel to 60Hz if I play a more demanding game that my system can't run at 144Hz?
EDIT: seems confusing actually so I don't think I will go that route. I want just plug and rather spend $350 more on a GPU than deal with the setting changes and BS

A cheap used $100 27" 60Hz 1080p would make a good backup for when I upgrade later. I'm ready to just buy a 27" 1080p 60Hz but just wanted to double check here but don't think I'll get a clear answer oh well.seems everyone is confused on this BS.

If you only intent to play titles such as csgo, I recommend the 144hz option

thanks, I'm just going to get a 24" 144Hz 1080p for now (used or refurb).
1080p looks best on 24"
1440p or 4K looks best on 27"
I'll miss the 3" desktop space but I'll adapt.

I could get a 1080ti for around $700 used and run a 1440p or 4K on low , isn't as much as I expected (although I'm confused why there's like 239823 versions of the 1050ti and 1080ti) but then I might also have to upgrade my i7-4790K and mobo. And also probably need to make threads asking how to do everything. I'll just wait for 1440p/4K when prices come down, plus Refresh rate won't be much unless I spend like $1,000 on a 1440p/4K monitor.

I just want csgo to run a smooth 144Hz, other than that I don't really game and am perfectly fine with playing older 1 player games that aren't all about amazing graphics.
I'm not really on the computer that much anyway when it's not Winter, which just passed.
