[SOLVED] 1050ti upgrade

Hey guys.

I recently upgraded my CPU from a i3-7100 to a i5-9400f, as well as purchasing a 144hz monitor.

However, now my GPU is bottlenecked, and i am not reaching 144fps on most of the games i play to take advantage of my new monitor.

The only thing i am worried about for my 1050ti upgrade is my power supply, as i only have a 500W PSU.

My question is, at what extent could i upgrade my GPU considering my PSU wattage, and what would be a good upgrade at a good price? (I was thinking maybe a second hand 1070 or 1080)

first what PSU do you have? and if it's a decent unit a 1070 would work. I wouldn't go any higher than that

1)9400F + GTX 1050Ti is capable of high refresh in some titles at least on low...
-Windows should've been reinstalled.
-Motherboard and gpu drivers updated.
-Cpu and gpu temps passable.
-PC is clean of viruses/malware.

2)Slow storage drives are going to affect load, file access, and boot times.
Both of your SSDs are cheap, dram-less models. To sum it up, they perform worse than HDDs as they fill up.
Current HDD is a slow 5400rpm model.

3)Current psu is a potential fire hazard. This should be replaced before anything else really.

I have completed most the things you have suggested in you first point. However, what do you mean by my PSU being a fire hazard?

I had to look across a few threads for this unit, as there isn't much on it available anymore - the old reviews are no longer up. But from what I was able to find, Aerocool scammed the reviewers with a phony.
The Integrator 500 they all reviewed wasn't the retail product - the review sample scored well, but the actual retail product is a piece of crap.

I appreciate the information man, i never knew this about my PSU as I was relatively new to the pc world 3 years ago (hence why my PC was initially a pre-built). Do you think now that since i've had the PSU for 3+ years that maybe my one is fine? Or should i still not risk it and purchase a power supply with my new GPU.

You've been able to get by because you haven't been pushing it.
Upgrading the gpu - which is the most stressful part of a PC, by the way - with that unit in there is not a good idea.

Putting something like an RX 580 in your system now would most assuredly make it pop. Plus, it might take something else out with it...

I was considering these cards, however they are a bit more expensive than the 1070, and not much of a performance boost from what i've seen. I will consider it though if i get a new PSU.

They are roughly the same in performance, so is the 1660 Super, which is usually a better value over the Ti model.

Yes, the 1660 super does seem like really good value, i will be considering this card and the 1070 most likely.
